GrainLight represents a cutting-edge polyphonic granular synthesiser, an advanced musical instrument that harnesses the power of granular synthesis. This sophisticated technology operates by breaking down audio samples into minuscule fragments called "grains." These grains, while tiny in isolation, collectively carry the potential to craft rich and intricate sonic textures.

The core functionality of GrainLight lies in its ability to meticulously extract these grains from a diverse range of audio sources. Whether you're drawing from conventional instruments, everyday sounds, or even abstract noise, GrainLight can seamlessly convert these inputs into a mosaic of sound grains.

Once these grains are harvested, GrainLight empowers musicians and sound designers to arrange and manipulate them with unparalleled precision. The result is a captivating auditory experience that goes beyond conventional synthesis methods. The polyphonic nature of GrainLight allows for the creation of multi-layered compositions, where numerous grains interweave and interact, producing a harmonically complex and emotionally resonant output.

In essence, GrainLight opens up a world of sonic exploration, enabling artists to transform ordinary sounds into extraordinary soundscapes. It's versatility, driven by the innovative granular synthesis approach, positions it at the forefront of modern music production and sound design. Whether you're seeking to craft ambient soundscapes, experimental compositions, or anything in between, GrainLight offers an intuitive and powerful platform to realise your creative vision.

The GRAIN ENGINE sets the playback of the loaded sample.
START, END and FINE set the size of the sample loop, the loop length has 5 preset sizes ranging from 10 to 1000 with RANDOM adding variation to the loop.
ATTACK, WIDTH and DECAY set the size and shape of the grain being played with RANDOM adding variation to the grain loop.
PAN sets the left right position of the audio output with RANDOM adding a random element to left right position.
MOTION dampens the swing amount generated by the POSITION MOD LFO.
Grain Modulation

POSITION and PITCH MOD affect the grain loop playback.
In POSITION MOD, SHAPE alters the waveform from triangle to sine, BIAS adjusts the rise and fall time of the waveform, PACE and RANGE adjust the speed and depth of the LFO, when GATE is switched on the LFO will restart with each midi note received.
In PITCH MOD, SHAPE alters the waveform from triangle to sine, BIAS adjusts the rise and fall time of the waveform, RATE and DEPTH set how the LFO alters the pitch of the grain loop, when GATE is switched on the LFO will restart with each midi note received.
Amp EG - Filter EG

AMP EG switches between ADSR and DRONE mode, in AMP EG mode the EG has an effect of the volume response to incoming midi key data.
FILTER EG switches between ADSR and DRONE mode, in FILTER EG mode the EG effects how FILTER B responds to incoming midi key data, DRONE mode disables the EG from FILTER B.

FILTER A contains eight bandpass filters, the range dial and filters can be modulated with the FILTER MODULATION LFO.
FILTER B is variable 2/4 pole low-pass, band-pass, high-pass design with modulation via the FILTER MODULATION LFO and control via the FILTER EG.

FILTER MODULATION LFO is a stereo LFO with sine, random and drift waveforms.
The RATE and DEPTH dials set the LFO speed and range amount.
The MOD A/B dials set the amount of modulation that the LFO sends to buss A/B
PH-L / PH-R alters the phase of of the LFO and SYM alters the LFO wave-shape.
The FILTER B dial sets the amount of modulation that the LFO sends to FILTER B.
Mulit Effects

The multi effect processor consists of two frequency shift effects and a stereo modulation/delay/reverb chain.
In PARALLEL mode the effect chain has two stereo channels.

Channel A = Shift A + Delay/Modulation
Channel B = Shift B + Reverb
In SERIES mode the effect chain has one stereo channel.

Channel A = Shift A + Delay/Modulation + Shift B + Reverb.
The MIX dial sets the amount of delay or modulation in the chain.
The BALANCE dial sets the amount of delay/modulation or reverb in the chain.
